Project Triumph TE-1 | Electric Motorcycle Powertrain Prototype Revealed

Announcing the completion of Phase 2, Integral Powertrain is pleased to reveal the powertrain prototype, initial high level performance results, and the first design concept drawings for the Project TE-1 Prototype motorcycle that will be created at the end of the next phase.

“IP’s engineers have used their experience and ‘Core Technology – Bespoke’ approach, to deliver a fully integrated, cutting edge motor and inverter design which surpasses the power density targets set by the UK Automotive Council for 2025. The motor delivers an unrivalled power density of 13kW/kg and the integrated motor and inverter weighs just 16kgs, whilst comfortably delivering a peak power of 130kW and very high continuous performance through high efficiency and advanced cooling. We are delighted to be playing a key role in this landmark project.”

Integral e-Drive has developed a new, highly integrated motor and inverter powertrain as part of the project. A bespoke, very high-power-density Integral e-Drive electric motor has been combined with new, ultra-low-loss Silicon Carbide power-stage, which, like Integral e-Drive’s electric machines, is itself extremely scalable. Initial performance test results far exceed the current benchmarks and industry targets. Overall, developments in performance, efficiency and range are enabling Project TE-1 to fully deliver the partnership’s objectives to enhance the credibility and profile of British industry providing substantial input into future electric motorcycle strategy from Triumph.

Project Triumph TE-1 is a ground-breaking collaboration between Triumph Motorcycles and the UK’s leading electrification experts, each of whom is focused on creating innovations in their own specialist areas whilst creating unparalleled UK electric motorcycle capability.

Delivering on the objectives announced before the start of the TE-1 project in August 2019, focused on developing specialist electric motorcycle technology and innovative integrated solutions, this unique collaboration between Triumph Motorcycles, Integral Powertrain Ltd, Williams Advanced Engineering, and WMG at the University of Warwick funded by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles, has already achieved significant results.
