Integral Powertrain Limited and NIO 333 Formula E Team enter into long-term electrified powertrain technical partnership to support the team’s ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
The e-Drive division of Integral Powertrain Limited (IP), manufacturer of world-class, record-breaking electric motors and inverters, announces today that it has entered a Technical Partnership with the NIO 333 Formula E Team.
IP has worked with the UK based division of the 333 Racing Team to develop the electric powertrain for its upcoming Season 7 and Season 8 campaigns in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championships including the engineering and supply of bespoke, high-performance electric motors and inverters.
The focus for this powertrain is efficiency rather than ultimate power to weight ratio that IP has become famous for and, by adapting its motor and inverter technology to make full use of the weight allocated by the team, it has achieved outstanding results.
Operating at 200kW the motor achieves 98.6% efficiency whilst the inverter, utilising the latest Silicon Carbide technology operates at an astonishing 99.5% efficiency.
This combined optimisation of powertrain and gearbox is the result of close collaboration between 333 Racing and Integral Powertrain which this technical partnership cements officially.
Arnaud Martin, Head of Motorsport & Inverter Systems, Integral Powertrain Limited.
“Formula E is all about efficiency, it is therefore the ideal platform for us to showcase our high efficiency motor and inverter technology. As a result of its extreme requirements, our involvement in Formula E allows us to push the boundaries of electrification technology which in turn benefits our other programs in automotive, aerospace, and marine applications.
The partnership with NIO 333 is the logical continuation of a very strong collaborative approach to the powertrain optimisation which has already demonstrated its benefits after the first race weekend. Throughout the year we will work to deliver further incremental improvement which should benefit the team’s on track performance.
We wish NIO333 the best for Seaon7 and Season8.”
Duncan Laycock, Chief Technical Officer, NIO 333 Formula E Team
“333 Racing welcomes Integral Powertrain as a Technical Partner. At the forefront of electric powertrain technologies, the IP team work with our engineers to provide a tailored e-drive solution. The efficiency gains from MGU, MCU combined with our latest transmission mark a significant step for 333 Racing’s Season 7 powertrain. Last season was about consolidation and putting the correct technical partners in place. The Diriyah E-Prix saw the first competitive outing for the powertrain rewarded with both cars in super pole and double points finish. Given the ultra-competitive nature of this championship, fractions of a percent make the difference. IP’s continued contribution, and their first principles no nonsense approach, make the collaboration a pleasure.”
