The main purpose of the role is the Design and development of new and existing test equipment and systems utilised within the company.

Key responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Test Systems Engineering Team to support the development of designs, costs and timing plans for new and developed test equipment.
  • Oversee the assembly phase of a project ensuring that new items of equipment are assembled correctly and finished to the highest standard.
  • Carry out commissioning of new test systems that have been designed/manufactured in-house or purchased externally.
  • Carry out risk assessments on new and existing test equipment in order to ensure safe systems and procedures.
  • Develop existing test equipment or systems in order to improve testing capability.
  • Provide engineering input to support the maintenance of test equipment employed within the company.
  • Perform regular inspections of equipment according to the Preventive Maintenance Plan for the equipment or Test Systems.
  • On going effort to improve products, services, or processes by means of ‘incremental’ improvements over time.
  • Implement the Best Practices for the Test Systems.
  • Ensure that projects adhere to the pre-agreed cost and timing plans.
  • Ensure that project records are collated and maintained for future reference.
  • Any other tasks that are reasonably assigned to you by your line manager, including development activities, which are within your capability and grade.

Required Education & Industry Experience

  • NVQ Level 3 Electrical Engineering/Installation or equivalent Apprenticeship.
  • Knowledge and experience with Low voltage DC switching systems up to 1500VDC.
  • Knowledge of best practices for electrical earthing for both safety and noise (EMI) immunity. Experience with clean and dirty earth systems.
  • Ability to review and understand electrical circuits and panels in 2D CAD systems, including wiring schematics, P&ID circuits, and layout drawings.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality work with minimum supervision.
  • Exhibit good planning and organisational skills.
  • Clear communication skills.
  • Good punctuality and time management skills.
  • H&S knowledge.
  • Proficient in MS Office.

Desirable Technical Skills and Attributes

  • Degree in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Experience with PLC systems
  • Ability to design and document electrical circuits and panels in 2D CAD systems, including wiring schematics, P&ID circuits, and layout drawings.
  • Experience and knowledge of instrumentation and control systems.
  • Knowledge of Variable Speed Drives.
